Lowland Climate but is hardy in a range of temperatures so possible classification could be Intermediate.
This spectacular species is endemic to parts of North and West Sumatra and is unfortunately critically endangered in its natural habitat. We are delighted therefore to finally be able to offer it from a sustainable source and in significant numbers.
Significantly, although technically a lowland species it grows very well for us under highland conditions, with temperatures ranging from about 12 – 15 deg. C at night, peaking around 25 deg. C in the day. It’s therefore much more temperature tolerant than was originally supposed. We don’t find it particularly difficult to grow. In habitat it likes to grow on sandstone, but we have no problems growing it on our usual mix of coir peat and chopped coconut husks.
